Coaches from London to Germany, basic info

Germany is one of the most accessible destinations to reach from the UK, and also acts as a gateway to a lot of the rest of Europe when travelling overland. Flixbus provide some direct links when going to Germany, but most buses to the country involve only one change when travelling from London. There are daily Flixbus bus lines from London to Hamburg, Cologne, Dortmund, Berlin, Dresden, Frankfurt, Mannheim, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Munich and many more cities and towns in Germany. Your destination will be certainly near to the more then 200 bus stations in Germany. Travelling by coach from the UK to many big cities in Germany isn’t complicated and compared to planes or trains, coach services are usually cheaper. Travel time varies depending on the distance of your destination. The majority of the route is on highways, and the coach journey from London takes approximately 10 hours to Aachen, 12 hours to Dusseldorf, 13 hours to Cologne, 20 hours to Berlin, and 22 hours to Munich. There isn’t a single service from London, which reaches out to all cities in Germany. There are several separate routes from London, and each of these connections comes to a different region in Germany. Several of the coach services are direct routes, and some aren’t, it means that you have to move to another coach. However, while coach transportation is generally cheaper than air or train travel, the trade-off is that it is usually slower. This is due to long-distance coaches generally being limited to 100 km/h (while even concidered as 'slow' trains exceed 150 km/h), traffic congestion, and the requirement that bus drivers take scheduled rest breaks. Buses also tend to be more cramped than trains. When deciding between coach and rail, be sure to consider the trade-offs of cost, time, and comfort. Most coach services to Germany depart from London in the afternoon and arrive in Germany the next day. In peak summer season you will find more connections; naturally, the exact timetable is subject to change – check the current information directly on the Flixbus website The cheapest way to travel to Germany is definitely the coach. If you are on a tight budget, then taking the coach can offer some fantastic cost savings.
While offering excellent fares some of these coach companies featured offering a very high-quality service - you can expect reclining seats, extra hold luggage, free wifi, sometimes they offer you complimentary tea or coffee, and you also have power sockets at each seat.

Thanks to the frequent coach services provided by Flixbus, you can now easily and quickly travel to and throughout Germany! You can book cheap tickets for your trip to Berlin, Munich, Cologne and many other German metropolises and smaller towns. One-way ticket price from London to Aachen, Dortmund or Essen  & Germany can be as cheap as £20 (one-way). You can save money if you book return ticket. If you have a look at the bus schedule provided below, you will also see that Germany is very well connected to the rest of Europe thanks to a vast international coach network. Therefore it’s no problem to travel from the United Kingdom to Berlin or Munich.

Bus from London to Germany: Discover German cities

Cologne

Now the fourth biggest city in Germany, Middle Age Cologne was one of the most important cities in the Holy Roman Empire. In 1248 work began on its imposing cathedral, known as the Dom. It was once the world’s tallest building, but still is Germany’s most visited attraction. Over the Christmas holidays, the colourful and bustling Christmas markets use the Dom as a dramatic backdrop. Sightseeing in Cologne is concentrated around the Dom, with three major museums stones throw away.

Frankfurt

Fourteen museums make up the longest mile of museums in Europe – the Museumsufer (Museum Embankment) on the southern bank of the Main. Sachsenhausen, the oldest district in Frankfurt, lies on the south side of the river and is one of the traditional entertainment areas with bars, clubs and restaurants housed in traditional buildings. Visitors can climb up the 328 steps of Emperor’s Cathedral tower for breathtaking views of Frankfurt.

Berlin

When it comes to fashion, art, design and music, the German capital is the city to watch. Bursting with an enviable list of attractions for visitors to enjoy including: museums, galleries, gourmet restaurants and even opera houses, Berlin caters for all tastes. Historic 20th century landmarks are all around you in Berlin, the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie and what’s left of the Berlin Wall. It’s not just the history that draws visitors here. The nightlife is an essential part of Berlin where the cafes and bars are vibrant meeting places for locals and tourists alike. You won’t be disappointed spending time in this fascinating city.

Munich

Munich is the Capital of Bavaria and lies near the foot of the Alps. Germany’s second most popular destination after Berlin, it has something to offer everyone, be it culture, hi-tech, parks and greenery, night-life, architecture, beer gardens, shopping or the skiing and sailing close by. Oktoberfest is one of the things that puts Munich on the map. Marienplatz, where the main pedestrianised streets converge, is the undisputed centre of Munich, and the location of the impressive town hall, the Neues Rathaus. Many of the city’s main attractions are in the immediate vicinity, so sightseeing can easily be done on foot or by hopping on and off trams. The former artists’ quarter is now considered the most fashionable part of the city, with numerous cafes, bars, restaurants and nightlife venues.

The journey from London to Germany by Flixbus

Transport from London to Germany is carried out with traditional Flixbus’ vehicles. All Flixbus’ coaches have on-board toilet and washroom facilities, reclining seats and air-conditioning as standard.
Sometimes the coach that picks you up from your departure point has only the final destination displayed on the front windscreen. This is because the majority of Flixbus routes include multiple stops and it would be impractical to display every stop on the front windscreen. Also, you may have booked a journey which requires a change of coach. In both examples, please ask the driver to confirm that his/her coach is going to the destination stated on your ticket. Flixbus put the safety and comfort of passengers first, so the vehicles are equipped with a large number of safeguards. The operators are using modern vehicles with large panoramic windows and increased legroom. Flixbus coach services to Germany depart from Victoria Coach Station in London which is located close to Victoria Underground and bus stations. When travelling to Germany from London Flixbus, the carrier does not operate its own stations, but rather use existing public bus transportation facilities. In most large cities, buses stop at the main bus station (Zentraler Omnibusbahnhof / ZOB), usually near the main train station or the long-distance bus at the airport (or both). Big cities may have several stops. In smaller towns and suburbs, a bus stop can be located at the train station or just at the bus stop on the side of the road near the city center. Your ticket should contain accurate information and give the address (and often the map) of the place of detention both for the place of origin and destination. If you make a changeover, make sure the bus stop is the same or, if not, that you know how to get between the interchanging stops and how long it will take.
At major bus stations there are electronic departure boards similar to those at railway stations and airports, which show approaching departures and on what platform they depart; use them to locate your outgoing bus. Before boarding the bus, confirm the destination using the destination mark on the front windscreen / or side of the bus. If in doubt, ask the driver.

The carrier provides service to any person who has purchased a ticket. Number of tickets for the designated route is limited to the number of seats. Having a valid ticket guarantees you use of the service (seat on the coach), however it does not reserve any particular place.
Single and return tickets (with the indicated date and time) are for a specific journey, you cannot miss the departure because you will lose the ticket.
Best to buy tickets well in advance. Flixbus has many discounts for those who decide to purchase tickets in advance. Constant, although a slight discount is provided for youth, elderly and disabled people. Up to 50% discount is provided for children. Unless you get a good promotional fare, return fares are much cheaper than two single fares each way.

  • Before leaving home for your Flixbus international service, check you have packed all documents and items needed for your journey, especially your ticket, passport (sometimes it is enough to travel with ID card) and if your journey requires a special visa to enter or transit.

  • Never accept other person's luggage for transport! Should you notice any luggage left unattended, never touch it! Report the fact to the station’s service staff immediately. Never leave your luggage unattended!

It is advisable to place your overcoats in the boxes. This will streamline and facilitate security control.
  • If needed, remember to take your doctor’s certificates.
