Exciting news from Megabus
Posted in Industry news
The operator of low cost international coach services - Megabus, has announced the opening of its first European base in Belgium (close to Brussels) from which a new network of services in the Benelux region and in France will be launched.
New services will serve Brussels with Lille, Luxembourg and Rotterdam, offering fares from €1 (+ 50 c booking fee). The new connections will operate from 6th October.
The significant growth in the popularity of long distance low-cost coach travel in Europe convinced market-leading operator Megabus to expand its operations in continental Europe. As well as serving Luxembourg for the first time, the coach operator also plans to increase daily frequencies from Brussels to some destinations, like Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne. Additionally Antwerp will now have a direct service to Cologne for the first time, operating one service per day in each direction.
With its base in Brussels, Megabus is creating 20 new jobs. The depot, located at Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, will be used by a fleet of six vehicles and the operation will be headed by a general manager. In order to serve the new routes, the company has placed an order of six coaches – representing an investment of over €2 million. The 72-seat vehicles are all being manufactured by Belgium based coach builder VanHool, and will be equipped with free Wifi, power sockets and onboard toilet facilities for additional comfort and convenience.
Tickets with fares from €1 + 50c booking fee will be on sale later this week – at megabus.com – for the new carrier’s network.
