Posted in Industry news
Stagecoach South played an important role in the opening of one of the UK’s biggest civil engineering projects this century.
The tunnel stretches to a length of 1.9 km and cost £371 million. The tunnel is located on the A3 at Hindhead in Surrey is now the UK’s longest under-land road tunnel.
Stagecoach South provided 20 buses and coaches for this special event in which more than 7000 people walked the subterranean roadway.
Drivers from Aldershot, Basingstoke and Winchester depots were also some of the first to drive through the tunnel, and Stagecoach aims to take part in an emergency planning exercise which will help the project achieve its safety certification.
